Saginaw Sting News Release
The Saginaw Sting has been showing fans in the Great Lakes Bay Region that they are a force to be reckoned with. The Sting remain undefeated after beating the Evansville Rage 72-29 last Friday. This year's team has a host of talent from CJ Tarver who was recognized as the Sting player of the game for games one and two, to Tommy Jones and Andrew Deweerd, earning their spots as co-players of the game for game three against the Rage.
CJ Tarver played college football at Hudson Valley Community College in New York. CJ being from Albany, NY has shown the Sting fans what means to be an all-around good football player. So far CJ has scored a kick return every game for a touchdown. In game 2 he returned two kick returns back to back for touchdowns. In the same game he also caught two passes from Tommy Jones for touch downs in the 91-18 defeat of the Indianapolis Enforcers.
Tommy Jones, the returning quarterback from the 2011 Sting championship team, has shown that he is coming back for the long haul again this year. In game three through him the offense scored 5 touchdowns passes, four to Zach Nichols and one to Andrew Beaver. Jones has consistently shown great leadership as quarterback keeping his time on the field meaningful and on point every time. Last season, Jones was picked as league MVP and is showing that he isn't going to give that title up easily.
On the opposite side of the ball is rookie Andrew Deweerd, linebacker for the Saginaw Sting. The defense fought hard to keep the Rage at bay. A hard hitting player from Northwood University, Deweerd is showing promise as an arena football player. Deweerd came up with some key 4th down plays to cause the Rage to turn over the ball more than once.

In other news, the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) today has announced the postponement of the contest between the Saginaw Sting and the Chicago Pythons originally scheduled for Saturday, April 7th to be hosted by Chicago. If necessary, the game will be played the weekend of May 26th, in Chicago.
Earlier this week, Mike Duran assumed ownership of the Chicago Vipers, creating the Chicago Pythons. The team will be inheriting all the stats and the current Viper record.
"In taking over the Chicago team I had exhausted every resource possible in trying to make this week's game a reality," stated new owner Mike Duran. "I felt the best option in making this game successful, was to postpone it to a later date, allowing for a better set up and a proper game day itinerary." With the coming of a major holiday weekend and the inability to acquire the appropriate necessities to complete the game, all three parties (CIFL League Officials, Pythons and Sting ownership groups) elected to postpone the game until a later date. Next Saturday, April 14th, Chicago will be hosting Evansville at 8:30pm ET and the Sting will be traveling to Port Huron for 7:30pm ET game.
"It came down to an issue of the proper preparations being completed for the entire organization. Mike has worked hard this week, but we felt like making sure that everything was in place was more important than rushing to play the game under the given circumstances," explained CIFL commissioner Jeff Spitaleri. "I think overall, you never want to switch dates during the regular season, but with all the things that needed to be accomplished, it ended up being in the best interest to focus all of their efforts to being ready to host on April 14th."
The Saginaw Sting's Co-Owner & General Manager Robert Licht added, "We wanted to do what is right for the league, and playing the game under the current circumstances would not have been good for anyone involved. As an ownership group, Stuart (Schweigert), Jim (O'Brien) and myself compared this situation to a rain-out in Major League Baseball. Things happen and we completely understand that. We've turned our focus towards playing Port Huron next Saturday the 14th and will look forward to seeing the Pythons in Saginaw on April 27th."
