Arizona Sting News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Wednesday the signing of forward Pat Maddalena to a one-year contract.
"We're very pleased to be bringing Pat back," said Hamley. "He's been a great player in this organization for the past four years and we'll be looking for big things from him again this season on the left side of our attack. We're excited that he'll be living in Phoenix this year, giving him a chance to interact with our fans on a regular basis."
Last season, Maddalena was Arizona's second-leading scorer, amassing 59 points (31G-28A) in 16 games. The 5'9", 169 lb. forward also set the franchise record for both power play and shorthanded goals in a season in 2005, scoring 13 and 4 respectively. In the playoffs, Maddalena scored 6 goals to go along with 9 assists for 15 points in the NLL Champion's Cup Playoffs as the Sting made a dramatic run to the league's title match against the Toronto Rock. In the off-season, the Welland, Ontario native completed his studies at New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, New York. He has recently re-located to Arizona along with his wife Jamie.
"I'm excited to be back with the Sting," said Maddalena. "I feel that our team has improved since last season and we have an excellent chance of repeating as champs in the West (Division). I'm looking forward to making another run at a league title with the Sting while at the same time starting my chiropractic career right here in the Valley of the Sun."
Originally drafted by Buffalo in the second round (15th overall) of the 1999 NLL Entry Draft, Maddalena enters 2006 with 171G-138A-309P-32PM in 88 career games. His 113 goals as a member of the Sting/Landsharks place him first all-time in that category. He also holds the franchise record for game-winning goals in a season, having registered 5 in 2003.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 regular-season record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
