Saginaw Sting News Release

(January 14, 2011 Saginaw, MI) - The front office of the Saginaw Sting is not wasting anytime in getting the word out on their 2011 season as well as signing one of the best arena/indoor quarterbacks in Tommy Jones. Tommy is a seven year veteran and has over 300 touchdown passes in his career - in 1996 he threw 100 touchdowns in a single season while compiling 3562 yards in the air.

Jones led two different franchises to divisional and league championships. Jones led the IFL in passing yards in 2006-2009 and has thrown more touchdown passes than almost any quarterback that has played the game. Jones became the only quarterback to eclipse the 3,000-yard passing mark in 2006-2009 and he led the league with 225.6 passing yards averaged a game. Jones posted 450 passing yards with nine touchdown passes in two games played during the 2009 IFL playoffs and he would lead the El Paso to an appearance in the Intense Conference Championship Game against Billings. Jones has been an All-Star in all of his six years of arena/indoor football. In 2006 Jones led the offense by posting 100 touchdown passes during the season, and led the club to a recording-setting 97-56 win over Corpus Christi in Intense Bowl II. The following are career notes on quarterback Tommy Jones.

2009 - El Paso Generals (IFL)

2006-2008-2010 - West Texas Roughnecks (IFL)

2005 - Columbus Destroyers (AFL)

2004 - Calgary Stampeders (CFL)

***Appeared in eight games (started six) and threw for 1,237 yards, seven touchdowns and completed 52% of his passes. ***Jones was invited to private workouts with both the Seattle Seahawks and the Buffalo Bills following the end of the CFL regular season in 2004. 2003 - Cincinnati Bengals (NFL) - Signed on May 12, 2003 1999-2003 Indiana University

"Tommy has been active in higher leagues since graduating from Indiana University and is a true professional, he is an outstanding person and role model for youth, Mayor Branch may have to order another "key to the city" when Jones is completed with the defensive backs in the UIFL during 2011- Saginaw is really landed a great one," commented Jason Murdock of the Sting front office. Jones stated; "I am very excited to be in Saginaw to lead a huddle and assist players in getting to the next level; and one thing is for sure; we are in the right city with the right front office for this; I can't wait to get started, this is going to be fun!
