Saginaw Sting News Release

SAGINAW, MI - There's plenty of buzz about the upcoming Sting season among the football fans within the Great Lakes Bay Region. Now nearly inside 12 hours to the start of the 2012 season some familiar faces set their sites on another championship; some newcomers look to play in front of their hometown fans for the first time since graduating college, or maybe even high school.

Sting Football returns to The Dow Event Center on Draper Auto Field at 4:30PM today, Sunday March 18th. Returning from the 2011 championship team are DL Michael Carter, DL/OL Vernon Burden, WR Zach Nichols, WR Andrew Beaver, LB John Jacobs and QB Tommy Jones. Suiting up along side them will be the likes of All-State athletes from Saginaw High/Northwood University (Jamar & Jamaal Hibler), Northwood's LB Andrew Deweerd, K Patrick Sijan and CB/DE Robert Cross. From Saginaw Valley State OL Jordon Derosia, DL Jonathan Horton, RB Keath Bartynski, LB/DB Rodney Gallon, and WR Jeff Austin.

"Our vision of Sting Football was clear from the start, local ownership, local talent, and local community involvement," said Co-Owner & General Manager Robert Licht. "In 12 hours we will begin that journey by honoring 2011 MHSAA State Champions from around the area, providing quality entertainment at an affordable price, and showcasing the talent of local athletes."

The festivities begin with a tailgate party located at The Dow Event Center's Unity Hall at 3PM. Inside you will find complimentary access to live music, drink specials, and large projection screen televisions to enjoy the college basketball games airing on national television. All of this is included in your ticket purchase price (ranging from $10 up to $25). The game against the Chicago Vipers gets underway at 4:30PM, a ceremony is planned to honor local state champions between the first and second quarters, and will also feature a special halftime performance by locally renown rock band Jedi Mind Trip. Post game activities include the opportunity to come down to the field for exclusive autograph sessions with the players.
