Arizona Sting News Release

Behind five goals and three assists from Dan Dawson, the Arizona Sting collected their sixth win of the season with an 11-7 victory over the expansion Chicago Shamrox.

Rob Blasdell collected 29 saves on the night, to give the Sting a 6-3 record headed into the All-Star break next weekend, good for second in the Western Division.

"Once again, we got a great team effort and were able to put it away," said Dawson, who know leads the league in goals with 31.

Chicago was lead offensively by Jon Harasym, who tallied three goals, and Jason Clark, who contributed three assists.

After a slow start with each team picking up two goals in the first quarter, the Sting separated themselves from the Shamrox in the second quarter. Goals from Dawson (2), Lindsay Plunkett, Craig Conn, and Andy Secore, in the second quarter gave Arizona a three-tally lead headed into the locker room and the Sting never looked back.

"We got off to a slow start tonight," said Head Coach Bob Hamley, who will be an assistant coach for the West Division at next weekend's All-Star game. "We finally picked up our feet in the second quarter and got going from there."

After securing a three-goal lead at halftime, the Sting relied on their stingy defense to preserve the victory.

Arizona only allowed three goals in the final 30 minutes to notch the victory.

"We are a defensive team this year," said Dawson, who was named a starter in next weekend's All-Star game. "If we can get a couple goals early, we can rely on our defense to play strong and hold them."

Hampered by undisciplined penalties all night, Chicago was called for 13 minor penalties in the night that resulted in four power play goals for Arizona. The Sting was only whistled for five total penalties on the evening.

Brandon Miller made 44 saves in the losing effort for the Shamrox (3-6), who are sixth in the Eastern Division.
