
Sting Acquires Darryl Gibson From San Jose

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting General Manager and Head Coach Bob Hamley announced today that the Sting has acquired defenseman Darryl Gibson and a conditional exchange of draft selections from the San Jose Stealth in exchange for forward Cam Sedgwick. In addition, the Sting also announced that the team has released defenseman Jamie Plunkett.
The 25-year-old Gibson has played in two games with San Jose this season, collecting 1 assist and 7 penalty minutes. Considered one of the top defenders in the National Lacrosse League (NLL), Gibson has registered 21 goals, 40 assists and 61 points in 67 games in his NLL career with San Jose, Toronto and Albany. The 6-foot-1, 205 pounder has also played in 5 postseason games (all with Toronto) and recorded 3-1-4.
Now in his sixth NLL season, Gibson was in his first campaign with the Stealth after having been acquired via trade with the Toronto Rock on July 27, 2004. Gibson played three seasons in Toronto from 2002 to 2004. Last season, Gibson registered 6-8-14 in 16 games with Toronto and set a career high in goals. The best offensive season of his career came in 2002 when he collected 3-15-18 in 15 games with Toronto and set a career high in points. The Toronto, Ontario native began his NLL career with Albany, playing two seasons there from 2000 to 2001.
Sedgwick was originally acquired by the Sting from Vancouver on Dec. 15, 2004 in the NLL Dispersal Draft with the third pick in the 1st round (3rd overall). Sedgwick had played the previous three seasons with Vancouver.
Plunkett was drafted by the Sting in the 4th round (35th overall) of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft from the Victoria Shamrocks of the British Columbia Lacrosse Association. He had not played in either of the Sting's two regular season games but had played in both preseason games for Arizona.
Gibson will make his Arizona debut tomorrow night when the Sting travels to Rochester to play the Knighthawks at 5:35 p.m. Arizona time.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). The Sting will play 16 regular season games in 2005 including 8 home games at Glendale Arena.
