
Steve Johnson to Replace John Isner on New York Empire's Roster for Season-Opening Match

NEW YORK - The New York Empire today announced that former top-ranked American Steve Johnson will replace John Isner on the team's roster for Sunday's season-opening match against the Washington Kastles at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Isner, the current top-ranked American, withdraws from Sunday's match after he battled Kevin Anderson to a heartbreaking 7-6 (6), 6-7 (5), 6-7 (9) 6-4, 26-24 loss in today's Wimbledon semifinal, a match that took six hours and 36 minutes to play.
Johnson competed as a member of the Orange County Breakers during both the 2016 and 2017 World TeamTennis seasons and was named the league's Rookie of the Year as a member of the Breakers during the 2013 season.
Sunday's match gets underway at 5 p.m. on Court 17 of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
