New York Lizards News Release

Garden City, NY (August 21, 2015) - The New York Lizards are the team of the year. They are the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Champions. All New York fans can now sleep soundly. Except for Lizards defenseman, Steve Holmes, who - less than two weeks after becoming a World Lacrosse Champion - has been invited by U.S. Lacrosse to be part of the 31-man tryout pool for this weekend's U.S. Men's Indoor National Team Training Camp.

In Holmes' two seasons with the New York Lizards, he saw the field 27 times and picked up 46 groundballs between regular season and playoff games.

The defenseman was picked up in the MLL Player Pool prior to the 2014 season along with midfielder, Shamel Bratton. Holmes is a Gwynedd Valley, PA native, where he attended Germantown Academy, playing both lacrosse and football. He attended the University of Virginia where he was one of the team's most reliable defenders and long-stick midfielders during his four years as a Cavalier. Holmes was a member of the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) in 2013 where he played in 15 games and picked up 44 loose balls. Prior to 2013, he had been in the MLL since 2006. In 2011 and 2012, he was a member of the Denver Outlaws, appearing in 10 and 11 games each season, respectively.

This weekend, Holmes will head to the National Team Training Camp at the Westminster School in Simbsbury, Conn. The three-day tryout will finalize the 18-man U.S. roster to be announced on Sunday, August 23rd.

Among the 31 men selected to tryout, Steve will be joined by fellow Major League Lacrosse players Tim Desko (Florida Launch), Marcus Holman (Ohio Machine), Drew Snider (Denver Outlaws), Ty Thompson (Rochester Rattlers), Matt Abbott (Chesapeake Bayhawks), Joe Cinosky (Charlotte Hounds), CJ Costabile (Chesapeake Bayhawks), Chris O'Dougherty (Denver Outlaws), John Ranagan (Rochester Rattlers), Jeff Reynolds (Chesapeake Bayhawks), and Joel White (Rochester Rattlers).
