Stegall catches a share of the CFL all-time receiving touchdown record

Published on August 26, 2005 under Canadian Football League (CFL) News Release

Winnipeg Blue Bombers slotback Milt Stegall tied an all-time CFL record with his 117th career touchdown reception. In the Blue Bombers 41-39 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Stegall hauled in two majors, giving the Blue & Gold receiver a share of the record.

Stegall scored his 117th touchdown reception on a dramatic 75-yard catch-and-run courtesy of a pass from Winnipeg pivot Kevin Glenn. Stegall joined former Calgary Stampeders great Allen Pitts, who had 117 career touchdown receptions from 1990-2000. Stegall is currently third in CFL all-time touchdowns with 120 behind Mike Pringle and George Reed's 137.

Stegall has spent his entire 11-year career with the Blue Bombers. He is the team leader in a number of all-time categories, including touchdowns, receiving yards and receptions. Stegall was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 2002 when he set a single-season CFL record with 23 touchdowns. He is a four-time CFL All-Star and a five-time Divisional All-Star.

Stegall will have the opportunity to overtake Pitts for the all-time CFL record in touchdown receptions next week when the Blue Bombers visit Taylor Field to take on the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Labour Day weekend.
