Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski announced today that the team has re-signed forward Chris Shaffer for the 2007-08 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Shaffer, 27, has spent his entire professional career as a SteelHound and in the 2006-2007 season had 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points in 62 games. During the playoffs the native of Dryden, Ontario had two assists and 12 penalty minutes in six games.

"Obviously it's great to be here since the team began and I feel the town is really starting to get behind us;" said Shaffer about his returning to the Mahoning Valley. The forward went onto say, "I think as a team we made great progress in our second season and we are moving in the right direction to win a championship."

In his first season as a SteelHound the 5-11, 195 pound forward had 10 goals and 12 assists in just 42 games as he was named the team's rookie of the year. The 2006-2007 season saw Shaffer claim a piece of team history as he was the first man to play his first 100 games as a SteelHound. In 104 career regular season games he has 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points and 130 penalty minutes.

"I think Shaffer is looking to rebound this season to prove what he can do. In order for him to do that he has to play a consistent physical, gritty game because when he does that he makes more offensive chances for himself and the team;" said Head Coach Kevin Kaminski about the returning forward.

Shaffer along with defensemen Stephen Margeson and Jeff Alcombrack are all returning from last year's squad who made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.

The SteelHounds begin season three at the Chevrolet Centre this fall and season tickets start as low as $42 a month. Call (330) 747-PUCK to talk to a ticket representative on how you can reserve your seat for all 32 hard hitting, fast paced home games today.
