GARY, Indiana - The Gary Steelheads turned in their most impressive road performance of the year, defeating the Dodge City Legend 113-109. Gary became the first USBL team to win at Dodge City this year, where visitors had a combined record of 0-9.

Trailing 95-92 in the fourth quarter, the Steelheads went on a 12-2 run down the stretch. Forward Jamario Moon connected on a three-pointer at 3:30 of the fourth quarter, giving Gary a 97-95 lead. Gary would never trail after that.

With Dodge City playing their second game in as many nights, the Steelheads tried to push the ball early. Gary scored seven straight points against the Legend for a 14-7 lead at the midway point of the first quarter. The Steelheads increased the margin to 26-16 when Carl Edwards connected on two free throws. By the end of the first quarter, Gary had a 32-18 lead.

The Legend cut into the Steelheads' lead early in the second quarter, with guard Shaun Fountain connecting on a long jumper to cut the Gary lead to 32-26. Dodge City went on to a 33-point quarter, but the Steelheads took a 59-51 lead to the locker room at halftime. The Steelheads held the margin in the third quarter, taking an 84-76 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Legend scored seven of the first nine points of the fourth quarter, pulling within three at 86-83 when Jamar Howard hit and field goal, was fouled and converted the three-point play. DeSean Hadley put Dodge City in front for the first time since 3-2, when he drove down the lane for a layup and was fouled. Hadley failed to convert the foul shot, giving the Legend an 87-86 lead at 7:58.

But soon after that, Gary would go on its game-deciding run. Forward Corey Minnifield scored six of the Steelheads' 12 points during the Gary surge. Minnifield finished with 22 points, while Gary was paced by guard Louis White with 23. Moon added 16 points, including a pair of three-point baskets in the fourth quarter. Dodge City was paced by forward Chris Sockwell, who tossed in 23 points. Guard Lincoln Glass added 22 points in a losing cause.

The Steelheads shot .593 from the field, while holding the Legend to just .444 from the field. Gary connected on 39-of-51 foul shots, compared to Dodge City's 35-of-51. Dodge City won the boards, 43-39.

The two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon at the Dodge City Civic Center.
