Steelheads to host Mascot Olympics

GARY, Ind. (February 24, 2004) – Can Bank One's mascot, Digit, score in double digits?

Will the McDonald's Hamburglar steal a few passes and take it the length of the court?

You'll see for yourself this Saturday at the Mascot Olympics, which will be held Saturday at halftime of the Steelheads vs. Rockford Lightning basketball game.

Ms. Packzi, pronounced (PONSH-kee) and Mr. Pierogi (PI-ROW-Ghee), named after two Polish delicacies and two Calumet Region favorite dessert and food, will try their basketball skills as well.

The Steelheads' lovable mascot, Steelie, may go one-on-one with the Rockford Lightning's Freddy Flash.

There will be several mascots participating. Paddles T. Otter, from Deep River Water Park, is known for his defensive brilliance. Frito Lay's Chester Cheetah, McGruff the Crime Dog, Our Country Buffet's Bee, Tiger Plumbing's Tappit, Hostess' Twinkie the Kid, Sand Ridge Bank's Ollie and Rusty the Railcat will be among those playing on the Steelheads' Court at the Genesis Convention Center. The Indiana National Guard will also have mascots trying to show their best game.
