Gary Steelheads News Release

Gary, IN: The Gary Steelheads announced today the signing of Paul McPherson to a contract for the remainder of the 2004-2005 CBA season. As per club policy, terms of the contract are confidential.

McPherson is no stranger to the CBA as he started last season in Rockford before finishing up the season in Idaho. McPherson averaged 15.0 ppg and 3.4 rbg in his 40 games played. McPherson shot 62.8% from the field, good for 3rd in the CBA, and averaged 1.6 steals a game for the Stampede. Before his time with the Stampede and Lightning, McPherson has also seen time with the Harlem Globetrotters and the Phoenix Eclipse of the ABA.

McPherson, an undrafted early entry in the 2000 NBA draft, played 55 games in the 2000-2001 NBA season with the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors. He averaged 4.8 pts and 1.4 rbs per game during that stretch. Prior to his professional experience, McPherson played for DePaul in 2000, averaging 11.2 ppg and 4.6 rpg in his only collegiate season.

"This is a great opportunity for me. Playing near home and getting to play with teammates that I respect is something that is appealing to me," said McPherson. "This is a very good team right now. I just want to come in and contribute to the success that they are already having. A lot of the guys are back from last year, and I know how good that team was since they pushed us so hard in Idaho. I can't wait to play tomorrow with my new teammates and get a win at home."

"It is not every day that you can add a player of Paul's talent during the season like this," said Steelheads Head Coach Duane Ticknor. "He was someone that we targeted in the off season to bring to Gary. It took us a little longer to get him here, but we are glad that he is with us. Paul gives us another weapon, and you can't have enough weapons in this league."
