Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (January 17, 2007) "" Former Gary Steelheads' swingman Renaldo Major has lived up to his name, as in major league! This afternoon Major was called up to the NBA's Golden State Warriors.

Major began his professional basketball career with the Steelheads, earning a roster spot through the team's free agent camp. He won the CBA Slam Dunk competition as a rookie at the league's 2005 All-Star Game, held at the Genesis Center.

Major returned to the Steelheads in late January of last year, acquired in a trade with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He contributed to a standout season for the Steelheads, which culminated in Gary's first-ever appearance in the CBA Finals. At first Major came off the bench as a sixth man, but ascended to the starting lineup when guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter signed an overseas professional contract late in the regular season.

"We've had several call ups throughout the history of the Steelheads, and none have made me more excited than this one," said Steelheads' president Jewell Harris Jr. "Renaldo is a great young man that worked his way up from our Free Agent Camp as a rookie and hasn't stopped improving since that day he showed up at the Genesis Center in Gary."

In 19 regular season games with the Steelheads during the 2005-2006 season, Major averaged 7.7 ppg and 3.8 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per game. He also earned first team all-star status while playing with the Dodge City Legends of the USBL during the league's 2006 season. Major was called up from the Dakota Wizards of the NBDL, where he was averaging 18.5 ppg, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 steals.

Major played his college basketball at Fresno State University.
