Steelheads Return Home, Host Kings on Mother's Day

Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (May 12, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads return home after a six-game USBL road trip to host the Brooklyn Kings at the Genesis Center in Gary late Sunday afternoon. The game is a rematch of last week's meeting in Brooklyn, won by the Kings, 109-92.

Although the Steelheads posted a 3-3 record on the road, it was a difficult trip for the team. Things got off to a very poor start when the team traveled to Jackson for two scheduled games with the Wildcats. They found the Jackson franchise to be in total disarray. Despite promises to the contrary, the Wildcats were unable to provide facilities or other conditions necessary for professional basketball. The Steelheads were awarded two forfeit victories, as Jackson was expelled from the league. However, the long period of inactivity was unsettling to the team.

Back-to-back losses at Albany followed. Then, it was on to Brooklyn and another loss there. Finally, the Steelheads were able to win the final game of the trip, 97-91 at Delaware. With the victory, Gary improved to 8-4 on the season.

Poor rebounding and 26 turnovers did in the Steelheads in the first-ever meeting with the Kings. The Steelheads played their worst first quarter of the season, being outscored 39-17. Gary wasn't outscored in any quarter after that, but they couldn't make up the difference. Forward Jamario Moon paced five double-digit scorers with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The Mother's Day game will air through the SportsJuice web site (www.sportsjuice.com), with Bill Hazen calling his seventh season of Steelheads' games. Airtime will be 4:50PM CDT. Game time is 5:05PM CDT. For ticket information, contact the Steelheads office at (219) 883-3000.
