
Steelheads Name Sambu Assistant Coach

GARY, Indiana (March 10, 2007) "" The Gary Steelheads have named Peter Sambu to serve as an assistant coach. Sambu will join Rob Spon on coach Cliff Levingston's staff for the upcoming 2007 USBL season.
Sambu comes to the Steelheads with a varied coaching background, most recently serving as Associate Coach for Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta. There he worked under one of Canada's most successful basketball coaches, Phil Allen, who won 762 games in a coaching a coaching career spanning 34 years. Allen's win total stands as the highest in Canadian college basketball history.
Prior to that, Sambu served as an assistant coach at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He also served as head coach for the Athletic Association Union there.
Sambu was head coach at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Alberta. During his four years at the helm, Sambu's teams had a 104-51 record. SAIT finished seventh nationally in his first year.
Sambu also played his college basketball at the school, when Phil Allen was coaching there. He was named an all-conference player twice.
