Steelheads Land CBA Rookie of the Year

Immanuel McElroy, the Continental Basketball Association's 2003 Rookie of the Year has agreed to terms to play for the Steelheads. He is the first to sign with the Steelheads for the 2003-04 season.

"My goal is to play my best to help the Steelheads get into the playoffs," McElroy said. "I know (Associate Head Coach) Dale Osbourne, having played for him this summer at Dodge City and I think this is a good opportunity."

McElroy, a University of Cincinnati alum, averaged 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 46 regular season games for the Grand Rapids Hoops. He helped lead Grand Rapids to the CBA championship game. In five playoff games, he averaged 17.4 points and 9.0 rebounds.

"Immanuel showed what a strong player he is last season and with the summer he had in Dodge City,' Steelheads Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations Duane Ticknor said. "He will be an asset to our team with his offensive and defensive skills."

McElroy played this summer for the USBL champion Dodge City (Kan.) Legend where he averaged 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals and was named to the USBL's All-Defensive Team. He Averaged 11.0 ppg. and 3.7 rpg. in playoffs.
