Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (June 15, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads return home following a five-game USBL road trip to meet the Long Island Prime Time Friday night at the Genesis Center. This is the last home game of the season for Gary and has been designated as Fan Appreciation Night. The team is planning several special surprises for the evening.
The Steelheads finished their trip Wednesday night with a 98-95 overtime victory over the Oklahoma Storm at the Mark Price Arena in Enid, Oklahoma. It was the second win for the team on their Midwest excursion. During the trip, Gary became the first team in the USBL to defeat the Dodge City Legend on their home court. The Steelheads downed the league-leading Legend 113-109 on June 9th.
The victory over Oklahoma Wednesday night was Gary's first overtime game of the season. The Steelheads were paced by guard Louis White, who scored a season-high 32 points. Forward Jamario Moon added 21 and forward Corey Minnifield chipped in 20. Minnifield came within one rebound of a double-double with nine. Oklahoma was paced by Michael Cuffey with 18 points and Jarred Merrill with 14.
The Steelheads shot .500 from the field for the game, with the Storm connecting at .446. Gary won the boards, 33-28. Oklahoma committed 19 turnovers, while the Steelheads turned the ball over 16 times. Gary improved their season record to 16-11, with a road record of 5-8. The Steelheads finished their five game road trip with a 2-3 mark.
The Long Island Prime Time is a consolidated franchise, made up of players from the Prime Time and the Delaware Stars. Both teams ceased daily operations during the season, but the rosters were combined to function as a traveling team in order to help the USBL fulfill its game dates. The Prime Time will not participate in the upcoming USBL Festival Playoffs in Enid, Oklahoma.
A broadcast of Friday night's game will air through the SportsJuice web site (www.sportsjuice.com), with Bill Hazen calling his seventh season of Steelheads' action. Airtime will be 6:50PM CDT. Game time is 7:00PM CDT.
