Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (May 22, 2007) - After a brief two-game home stand, the Gary Steelheads hit the road for back-to-back games at Kansas on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Afterwards, the teams return to Gary for two more meetings Saturday and Monday night. By that time, these two teams will know each other very well.
The Steelheads improved to 10-4 on the season with victories over Brooklyn and Oklahoma last week. Gary is currently on a three-game winning streak. This will be the team's second road trip of the USBL season.
The Cagerz have proven a very challenging team for the Steelheads. To date, Kansas is the only team to defeat Gary at the Genesis Center. The Cagerz did it in their season opener, slowing the game to a pedestrian pace for an 86-78 victory. It was an impressive win for Kansas, which outrebounded the Steelheads and held Gary to only .329 shooting from the field. The Steelheads played without three of their top players in the game; forward Jamario Moon, guard Rob Griffin and center Chris Alexander. Only Griffin remains sidelined due to injury.
Kansas is 8-6 on the season, following a 113-109 overtime win over the Brooklyn Kings in Salina, Kansas Saturday. The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Cagerz, who are 6-3 on their Bicentennial Center home court this year.
The game can be heard through the Internet over KSAL 1150-AM in Salina, Kansas. The Internet address for the station is www.ksallink.com. A link to the station's air signal is available on the front page of the web site.
