Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (June 7, 2007) - Following the successful conclusion of the Gary Steelheads' most recent USBL home stand, the team hits the road to face the Oklahoma Storm Thursday night. The game will be played at the Mark Price Arena in Enid, Oklahoma.
The Steelheads enter the game at 14-8 on the season, following an impressive 110-87 victory over Dodge City at the Genesis Center Tuesday night. A combination of outstanding defense, rebounding and good shooting resulted in the victory over the league-leading Legend. The victory was achieved without the services of 7-foot-1 center Chris Alexander, who continues under suspension for disciplinary reasons.
Rookie Adam Schaper made a case for strong consideration as the USBL's Rookie of the Year. Starting at center in the absence of Alexander, Schaper finished the evening with a double-double performance of 26 points and 11 rebounds. He hit 10-of-14 shots from the field, and 6-of-7 from the foul line. In forty minutes, he committed just a single turnover.
Gary placed six players in double figures, with guard Carl Edwards scoring 24 points and grabbing six rebounds for the winners. Swingman Keith Salscheider, playing against his former team, hit all six of his field goal attempts. He finished with 16 points, while forward Corey Minnifield added 14 points, guard Louis White contributed a double-double of 12 points and 13 assists, and forward Jamario Moon added 10 points with three blocked shots.
This will be the fourth meeting between the Storm and the Steelheads, with Gary winning the three previous games. However, this is the first meeting between the two teams in Oklahoma. Gary has struggled on the road this year with a 3-5 record, and two of those wins were forfeit victories over the Jackson Wildcats.
