Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (May 18, 2007) - The Gary Steelheads finished their brief two-game home stand with a 101-92 victory over the Oklahoma Storm at the Genesis Center. It was the first meeting between the two Midwest Division franchises, as Gary reached 10 wins on the USBL season.

The first quarter set the tone for this game, as the Steelheads pulled ahead 30-19. The Storm couldn't close the gap, trailing 59-48 at the half. Oklahoma played better in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 84-77. But, the game took a defensive turn in the fourth quarter. The Storm could manage only 15 points, against the Steelheads' 17.

Gary held Oklahoma below .400 shooting from the field (.398), and just .148 from three point range. The Steelheads outrebounded the visitors, 47-42. Gary's 13 turnovers was its lowest in recent games. And they needed to hold their turnovers down, as Oklahoma committed just 12 of their own.

It was another balanced scoring attack for the Steelheads, who had five players in double figures. Forward Jamario Moon and guard Carl Edwards tied for scoring honors with 22 points, while forward Adam Schaper added 14. Forward Jermaine Blackburn and guard Eddy Barlow added 10 points apiece for the winners. Moon picked up a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds. He also blocked five shots in the game. Gary played without center Chris Alexander, who was called to an NBA tryout by the Miami Heat. Center Chris Garnett was activated from Injured Reserve for the game.

The Storm placed three players in double figures, paced by Anthony Terrell with a game-high 27 points. Nate Carter added a double-double of 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Steelheads hit the road to face the Kansas Cagerz Tuesday night, while the Storm will visit Albany Sunday night.
