GARY, Indiana (February 17, 2006) - The Gary Steelheads tied a franchise record by winning their 9th consecutive game, defeating the Michigan Mayhem at the Genesis Center 107-100. With the win, the Steelheads solidified their hold on first place in the CBA's Eastern Conference with 5½ quarter points, improving their record to a high water mark of 10 games over .500 at 25-15.

Compared with last night's game, this rematch proved very challenging for the Steelheads. Michigan shot the ball well and succeeded in keeping the game at a comfortable pace. Michigan prevailed in the third quarter 28-27, and took the lead early in the fourth quarter at 85-84 on a basket by forward Willie Simms. But center Chris Alexander's basket put the Steelheads back in front at 90-89, and Gary never trailed again.

The Steelheads were paced by guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter, who tossed in 30 points with 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. He hit all 13 of his free throw attempts, extending his current free throw streak to six games without a miss. Over that time, he has hit 44 straight foul shots. Guard Brian Chase tossed in 19 points in 23 minutes, while guard Eric Chatfield added 14 points with 7 assists. Chris Alexander contributed his eighth double-double of the season with 10 points and 17 rebounds. He also blocked four shots.

The Mayhem were paced by veteran Willie Simms, who matched his season high with 30 points. Guard Marcus Wallace added 21 points with 10 rebounds, while guard Jason Boucher contributed a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists. He also had 6 steals in a losing cause.

The Steelheads will head to Rockford for their final regular season meeting with the Lightning on Tuesday night. A bus trip is being planned for the game. Interested fans are asked to contact the Steelheads' office for details at 219-882-4CBA (4222). The game is scheduled to air over WJOB in Hammond (1230khz) and WIMS in Michigan City (1420khz).
