Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (November 16, 2006) "" The Gary Steelheads are calling a press conference for Tuesday, November 21st, 2006 at 10:00AM. The event will take place at the Genesis Center in downtown Gary.

The purpose of the press conference is to introduce the team's ownership group and head coach, as well as to disclose future plans for the franchise. Dignitaries anticipated to be in attendance include Gary Mayor Rudy Clay, members of the Gary Common Council and Gary Steelheads' Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel Jewell Harris Jr.

The Steelheads compiled their most successful season in franchise history last year, coming within one game of winning the Continental Basketball Association title. Rookie coach Jaren Jackson was named CBA Coach of the Year, while forward Randy Holcomb was MVP of the CBA All-Star Game and earned an NBA call-up to the Chicago Bulls. All-Star guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter lead the CBA in scoring for most of the season, prior to signing a lucrative overseas professional contract. Hunter established several new individual records with the franchise during his spectacular season. Last season also marked the introduction of newcomer Brian Chase. Brian was an explosive point guard who proved to the scouts that the 5'8" point guard deserves a place in the NBA. Not surprisingly, after finishing the season with the Steelheads, Chase went on to dominate the USBL. This season, Chase earned a roster spot with the NBA's Utah Jazz.

The end of the season marked a period of unprecedented change for the CBA, including the loss of four franchises to the NBDL and the addition of several expansion franchises and replacement franchises from the ABA. After serious consideration, the Steelheads reluctantly declined participation in the CBA for the 2006-2007 season.
