Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - Coming off a solid road trip split, the JetHawks brought some positive momentum back to Lancaster. The JetHawks swatted 17 hits, seven for extra bases, then held of a late 66ers rally to earn a 9-7 victory. The JetHawks have now played better than .500 baseball for the better part of three weeks, going 9-8 over their last 17 games.
The 66ers expect Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Will Ohman to pitch for Inland Empire Tuesday night. The left-handed reliever is returning from an injury and is scheduled to throw the first inning at the Hangar.
Monday night's game was high scoring early as both teams struck in the opening frame. Lancaster answered a two-run Inland Empire inning when T.J. Steele swatted a three-run homer over the center field wall to put the JetHawks ahead 3-2.
The 66ers tied the game in the fourth inning, but once again the JetHawks responded. It was Jon Gaston's turn to show off his power as he smashed his league-leading 16th home run of the season over the right field wall, putting Lancaster back up by two. RBI singles by Koby Clemens and Matt Weston in the sixth inning helped extend the lead to five.
That lead was shortened significantly by a pair of Inland Empire home runs that got the 66ers back to within two in the eighth inning. But Erick Abreu emerged from the Lancaster bullpen to earn his third save against Inland Empire in less than a week to close out the game and give starter Chad Wagler his third win.
Their were several big performances at the plate for Lancaster. Steele drove in four runs and a couple of extra-base hits. Gaston and Gabriel Suarez each had four hits with Suarez scoring three runs. Eight of the nine JetHawks players had at least one hit.
