Chippewa Steel News Release
CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI- The Chippewa Steel laced up their skates for a three-game weekend series with the Minnesota Magicians. The Steel had the momentum going into this game with a record of 6-2 against the Magicians.
Both teams came out ready to play in the first period. It was the Magicians who got on the board first, however the Steel were ready to protect their home ice. Steel captain Jacob Dirks put one between the pipes for the Steel with help from Grisha Gotovets and Jackson Decker to tie things up.
The Steel saw short-handed time in the second period, but goalie Trent Burnham was able to deny the Magicians' man advantage. Despite another Magicians' goal in the period was answered again by Chippewa. It was Jacob Dirks finding the cage for the second time in the game with Gotovets getting his second assist and Luke Farthing adding to the mix. Dirks' goal evened things out for the Steel heading into the third period at two goals apiece.
Two quick goals by the Magicians put the Steel in a tough situation at the beginning of the third. Refusing to give up hope was Jackson Decker scoring his second goal of the season. Burnham was able to stop 33 of 37 shots on goal and the Steel continued to fight but ultimately fell short with only a one-goal difference with a final score of 4-3.
