Steel Streak Ends In Shootout At Erie

May 13, 2011 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Trenton Steel News Release

ERIE, Pa. - Playing short-handed, the Trenton Steel made a game of it, but saw its Southern Indoor Football League win streak end in a wild 90-79 loss to the Erie Explosion Friday night at Tulio Arena.

Offensively, both the Steel (5-4) and Explosion (7-2) had spectacular nights, but, defensively, without the departed Keon Lattimore and Mike Bibbs, and the absence of Melik Brown, Carl Spellman, Justin Fumando and Eric Bullock, unable to make the trip due to work commitments, Trenton was unable to keep up with the Erie attack..

With the win, Erie likely locked up at least a No.3 seed in the SIFL playoffs, while the Steel, with the loss, will likely battle Richmond for the fourth and final spot over the last month of the season.

Two SIFL records were set in this contest, as Erie's Adam DiMichele threw 12 touchdown passes and Steel wide receiver Oderick Turner pulled in 13 catches for 225 yards. DiMichele completed 28-of-46 for 359 yards and the dozen scores, seven of which went to Kevin Concepcion.

Trenton quarterback E.J. Nemeth threw for a Steel-record 405 yards and seven touchdowns.

But the Steel were unable to get the stop they needed as DiMichele played a superb game. Erie stopped the Steel offense just once, but that, plus a trio of Unos by Explosion kicker Carlos Ojeda, spelled the difference.

Steel head coach Rod Miller was ejected with 5:34 left in the contest. Linebacker Chris Pollard went out with an apparent hamstring injury.

The Steel return home next Friday, hosting the Harrisburg Stampede at the Sun National Bank Center.
