Stealth win in home opener 13-12

Mike ReganÂ’s fourth goal of the game with less than a second left in regulation gave the San Jose Stealth a 13-12 victory over the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday night in the SteathÂ’s first regular season home game.

The Stealth (1-1) defeated the Mammoth (2-1) before a crowd of 8,137 at HP Pavilion in San Jose. The game marked the regular season debut of the National Lacrosse League in Northern California.

Colorado opened the scoring with a goal by Ben Prepchuk at the 3:11 mark of the first quarter. San JoseÂ’s first regular season goal at HP Pavilion came shortly after and was scored by Gary Rosyski at 5:26. The score was tied at 5-5 after the first half.

Colorado rallied with three consecutive goals to start the third quarter, but the Stealth struck back with goals from Matt Ogelsby, Josh Sanderson and Mike Regan.

The Stealth started the fourth quarter down 10-8, but outscored Colorado, 5-2, to win the game.

San Jose outshot Colorado, 63-47, including 21 shots in that final quarter. Both teams also scored two power play goals apiece.

Regan led the Stealth with four goals while Josh Sanderson had three. Dan Teat contributed three assists. Gary Gait, Brian Langtry, Ben Prepchuk and Jay Jalbert each had two goals for the Mammoth while Gavin Prout had four assists.

STEALTH SHOTS: Chris Cercy won 10 faceoffs to lead San JoseÂ…Regan paced the Stealth with 21 shots, 16 on goalÂ…Sanderson (three goals and two assists) and Regan (four goals and an assist) each topped San Jose with five points apieceÂ…Goaltenders Rob Blasdell and Brandon Miller shared time in net for the Stealth. Blasdell played nearly 53 minutes and had 32 saves for the winÂ… Healthy scratches for the Stealth were Ross Johnson, Kelly Hall, Brenan Day, Derek Lowe, Mike McKay and Scott Ranger.
