Stealth Roll to 12-7 Victory Over New York

San Jose Stealth News Release

Stealth coach Walt Christianson and his players often say they have the best goalie in the league and that was certainly true Thursday night in San Jose's 12-7 win at the New York Titans. However the goalie wasn't the renowned Anthony Cosmo, but rather third-year player Aaron Bold, who repelled 46 shots.

Amazingly, all but one of the Titans' goals came on power plays.

"Aaron Bold was outstanding," coach Walt Christianson stated with the verve of a proud papa. It's the best game I've seen him play."

Christianson coaches Bold in a Canadian summer league. Bold, in only his third NLL season and second with the Stealth, has had limited opportunities playing behind Cosmo, who was late arriving in New York after tending to his teaching responsibilities in Mississauga, Ontario.

Conventional wisdom dictates that it takes four or five years for a goalie to know his way around the net. Bold is planning to accelerate that time table.

"I think it depends on how eager you are. I want to be the best damn goalie in this league at a young age," Bold declared in a statement befitting of his surname.

While Bold was swatting Titan attempts, an offense that stagnated in a 11-6 loss in Colorado, began living up to its explosive billing. From the 5:36 mark in the second quarter when forward Jeff Zywicki flipped in a short-handed goal, the Stealth outscored New York 7-1 and built an insurmountable 11-4 lead heading to the final frame.

"We worked really hard off the ball," said Christianson. "We stood around too much (in Colorado). The ball was moving really well (tonight)."

Zywicki and Luke Wiles each had hat tricks to go along with a combined seven assists. Rookie forward Frank Resetarits, the Stealth's first-round draft pick, scored the first goal of what he hopes will be a prolific career.

Defensive man Eric Martin, more of a fighter than a scorer, flipped in his second goal in two games, but counterbalanced the effort with 20 minutes in the penalty box.

Team captain Colin Doyle, who said his game against Colorado was one of the worst games he's ever played, rebounded with a pair of goals and one assist.

The defense helped set up the scoring by scampering off the floor quickly, which allowed the offense to set up.

The Stealth now returns home as the owner of a 2-2 record, which represents a blazing start for them. Last season the team staggered to a 1-5 start. The Stealth will play their fourth game in eight days Saturday night at HP Pavilion. Tickets are available for a tough contest against the high-scoring Minnesota Swarm. Game time is 7:30.
