Stealth Fines Named Rookie of the Week
February 9, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
San Jose Stealth News Release
SAN JOSE - San Jose Stealth forward Kevin Fines was chosen as the National Lacrosse League's Rookie Of The Week for the sixth week of the season. The NLL Rookie of the Week Award is determined by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the league's 10 member clubs.
Fines captured the award after posting three goals and scooping six loose balls Feb. 5 at Philadelphia. Fines has emerged as a young playmaker on the Stealth, posting 10 points (six goals, three assists) in five games.
"It's pretty exciting to win the award," Fines said. "But it doesn't change the fact we lost the game. We need to come out and get some victories against Colorado in the next couple weeks."
Stealth General Manager and Head Coach Johnny Mouradian is pleased with what he sees in Fines.
"Kevin is really playing a number of roles on this club," Mouradian said. "He's playing in the defensive end, running the transition game, playing five-on-five offense and even getting some looks on the power play. He's just a complete player and we are very proud of him.
Fines will be back in action next week as the Stealth take on Gary Gait and the Colorado Mammoth on Friday, Feb. 18 at HP Pavilion at San Jose at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available at all Ticketmaster locations, ticketmaster.com, by calling 408-999-5700 or at the HP Pavilion box office.
