WICHITA, Kansas â The Wichita Stealth used a terrific defensive effort to fly past the Laredo Law 64-34 on Saturday night at the Kansas Coliseum. Rookie Stealth QB Jonathan Beasley, the former Kansas State Wildcat standout, threw for six touchdowns to improve Wichita to 6-2. Laredo saw its two game win streak end as they dropped to 2-6. On the opening possession of the game the Stealth engaged in an eight play drive that was capped off by a 16-yard TD pass from Beasley to WR/DB Anthony Griffin for a 7-0 Wichita lead. Laredo answered as QB Rocky Perez connected with WR/DB P.J. Winston for a 15-yard TD strike to tie the game 7-7. Beasley then found OS Damon Thompson from 25-yards out for another Wichita TD and a 13-7 lead.
In the second quarter Perez capped off a 30-yard drive with a one yard run right up the middle as Laredo tied the game again, this time 13-13. The Stealth then marched 30-yards on three plays and the drive was capped off by a three yard run from WR/DB Brian Livingston for a TD to make it 20-13. On the next Laredo possession, Stealth WR/LB Chris Highshaw intercepted Perez and returned the ball 13-yards for a TD and a 26-13 Wichita lead. Trailing by two possessions the Law found a way to fight back in the game. After an interception by Law DS Traco Rachal, Laredo capitalized as Perez connected with OS Martino Theus for a 2-yard TD pass to pull the Law within 26-21 at halftime.
On the first possession of the third quarter the Law marched down the field in a six minute drive that was capped off by a seven yard pass from Perez to WR/LB Melvin Phillips to give Laredo their first lead of the game at 28-26. Wichita came right back as Beasley connected with Thompson from 22-yards to make it 32-28 Stealth. Wichita then turned up the heat as Perez was hit from behind and fumbled the ball, which was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by OL/DL Colin Bryant to extend the lead to 38-28. The Law recovered quickly as Theus made a spectacular one handed catch in the right corner of the end zone for a 23-yard TD to pull Laredo within 38-34.
Beasley then answered with the play of the game for the Stealth as he eluded the Law rush then found a wide open Thompson for a 39-yard TD strike to extend the Wichita lead to 45-34. The Wichita defense continued to turn up the heat as they stopped the Law on their final four possessions. Wichita added three more touchdowns to complete the scoring. FINAL SCORE Wichita 64, Laredo 34.
Beasley was 12-22 for 196 yards and six TDs. Perez went 21-36 for 198 yards and four TDs. Thompson hauled in five catches for 109 yards and four TDs.
