Traverse City North Stars News Release
TRAVERSE CITY - The Traverse City North Stars skated with - and past - the high-octane USA development program under-17s on Friday night before 952 fans at Centre ICE, using a three-goal spurt in the second period to lift the hosts to a 4-3 triumph and help even their record at 3-3.
Danny Dries (Lake Orion, MI/Compuware midget-AAA) notched a third period power play tally at 8:10 on assists from Patrick Nagorsen (Novi, MI./Orchard Lake St. Mary's) and captain Jarrett Rush (Pennington, NJ/Cobourg OPJHL).
The flurry of goals in the middle stanza, scored by Jonathan Juliano (Belle Tire midget-AAA), Nagorsen (power play), and the recently-acquired Adam Sponseller (Mt. Pleasant, MI), was interrupted briefly by a USA U-17 score (James van Riemskyk), but the 3-1 advantage proved too much for the development program to overcome.
Jared Mullen (Roanoke, VA/BelleTire midget-AAA) earned an assist on the Juliano goal (2:17 into the second), Matt Larke (Royal Oak, MI/Honeybaked midget-AAA) drew a helper on the Nagorsen lamplighter just over six minutes later, while Luc Du Bay (Des Moines, IA/Quad City CSHL) and Steven Oleksy (Metro Jets CSHL) set up Sponseller with 5:41 to play until the second intermission. The Stars' three-goal outburst came on just six shots over the second period.
Mike Clesak and Philip McRae scored goals sandwiched around the Dries game-cincher for Team USA U-17. Dries and Nagorsen lead the team with four goals, while Nagorsen has amassed seven points over the club's six outings.
Jeremy Kaleniecki (Addisson Twp., MI/Robert Morris College) logged his third victory of the season, producing 26 saves. Brad Phillips made 21 stops for USA U-17.
The teams lock horns again on Saturday. Face-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
