TRAVERSE CITY - For the first time in its 13-month North American Hockey League history, the Traverse City North Stars finally have an NAHL Player of the Week award in their coffers, thanks to the efforts of forward Aaron Pietila.

The Brighton, MI native had a pair of goals - both coming with Traverse City enjoying power plays - and as many assists in a 5-1 rout of the U.S. National Team Development Program U-17s on Saturday at Centre ICE arena. Pietila, who has a trio of power play markers this season, drew an assists on what turned out to be the game- clinching tally Saturday when he set up Kory Kaunisto for an even- strength lamplighter.

"He did it all," said TC head coach Scott Gardiner. "He scored goals, assisted on others, blocked shots - a real gritty performance."

Pietila took a puck to the groin during the third period of Saturday's win and was taken to the hospital following the contest. His playing status for this weekend's home-and-home series with rival Alpena is uncertain.
