Traverse City North Stars News Release
KALAMAZOO - The Traverse City North Stars raced to an early 2-0 lead on Sunday at Wings West Arena, but the host Jr. K-Wings responded with a trio of goals - including the decisive market 2:28 into overtime - to claim a 3-2 victory.
Zack Dorer (Holt, MI/Des Moines USHL/Ferris State) put the visitors on the board just 7:30 into the affair, and Eric Rivard (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) made it a 2-0 contest nine minutes later.
Kalamazoo levied an unassisted shorthanded goal with 1:18 left in the first period, added another with 9:06 left in regulation, and ended the first-ever meeting between the Stars and expansion Wings midway through the fourth frame.
The Stars (5-1-2) outchanced Kalamazoo by a 32-24 margin, including 15-8 in the third stanza, and had the first two shots in OT. Kyle Laslo (Fenton, MI/Osoyoos KIJHL) worked the Traverse City net once again, making 21 saves.
Mitchell Snider (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) dealt his team-leading sixth assist on Dorer's tally, while Nathan Harris (Fowlerville, MI/Lansing Capitals U18) set up Rivard's fifth lamplighter on the season.
The North Stars will travel to Port Huron on Wednesday for a mid-week matchup with the Fighting Falcons (5-3-2), and return to Centre ICE Arena on Saturday as the North Division-leading Michigan Warriors (7-2-1) pay a visit for a 7 p.m. face-off.
