Traverse City North Stars News Release

TRAVERSE CITY - Things have turned around for the Traverse City North Stars. After suffering through an 11-game losing streak that stretched from Oct. 15 to Nov. 22, the Stars have laid claim to seven of the last eight points on the table. The latest victory for Traverse City came Saturday night at Centre ICE arena, as the Marquette Rangers suffered a sweep at the hands of the Stars, 3-2, before nearly 900 fans.

Eriks Ozollapa scored two goals on Saturday - including the game- winner with 5:23 to play - after his Friday night breakaway goal was the catalyst behind a come-from-behind 6-5 win for the host Stars.

"It was a four point weekend, but really it was an eight-pointer," explained Stars coach Scott Gardiner. "We could be four points behind them (Marquette) but we're four up instead. It was a good game to win - ugly, chippy, and the kind of game we need to be winning when they come up."

Mike Glaesmer got the hosts on the board a mere :23 into the game, and Luke Bennett had the first of his two goals in the second stanza to knot the game for the Rangers. But Ozollapa's goal-happy ways and the stalwart goalkeeping of Kyle Jendra put the Stars at 10-13-4. Jendra snuffed 23 of 25 shots he faced, while Stephen Ritter stopped 23 of 26. The loss is the 11th straight for Marquette.

The Stars visit Team USA next weekend in Ann Arbor.
