Chicago, IL...Chicago Throwbacks forward Stanley Thomas was named PBL Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Thomas, a 6-5 forward out of Robert Morris, received Player of the Week honors as he averaged 35.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg and 2.5 apg while shooting 67.3% from the field in two games this week.
"This is a tremendous honor," stated Thomas. "I felt that my hard work would pay off and it has. I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to play the game of basketball. I would also like to thank George Bellevue and Tim Grover for giving me the opportunity to develop my skills at Attack Athletics during the offseason against the world's best."
Thomas scored a PBL single-game record 46 points on 16-of-24 shooting to go along with nine rebounds in Chicago's game against Battle Creek. Thomas followed up his PBL record-setting performance by scoring 25 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in Sunday's game against the Manchester Millrats.
"Stanley is the first player in practice and the last player out," said Interim Head Coach Joseph Boylan. "His work ethic is second to none."
Thomas is currently averaging 21.8 ppg (fourth overall), 6.4 rebounds (21st overall) and ranks sixth in the league in field goal percentage at 65.7%. Thomas is currently the PBL's All-time leading scorer with 662 career points.
"Stanley Thomas has worked hard in the off season by working out and playing pickup games every day at Attack Athletics with current NBA players like Dwayne Wade, OJ Mayo, Shawn Marion and Michael Finley," said Throwbacks Owner George Bellevue. "Tim Grover gave Thomas an opportunity to test his skills against the top players in the world and Stanley held his own."
Other nominee's included Benson Callier of the Vermont Frost Heaves, Donielle Davis of the Augusta Groove, Jamaal Wise of the Manchester Millrats, Walter Waters of the Detroit Panthers and Tyrone Rayson of the Buffalo Stampede.
