BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, September 26, 2005 (QMJHL) - Saguenéens Chicoutimi forward Stanislav Lascek and St.John's Fog Devils goaltender Brandon Verge were named offensive and defensive players of the week from the period extending from September 15th to the 25th.

A Tampa Bay Lightning 5th round pick in last year's NHL draft, Lascek scored four goals while assisting on five others for a total of nine points in four games. Last Saturday, he managed a hat-trick against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, which included a short-handed goal. Furthermore, while playing on a line with Marek Zagrapan, he scored one goal and one assist to help Chicoutimi defeat the Quebec Remparts 4-0 at the Georges-Vézina Center. Finally, in his team's 10-3 romp of Shawinigan, he notched one goal and three assists while taking six shots, totalling twenty seven during the four game span.

Derrick Brassard (3-6-9) of Drummondville, Stéphane Goulet (6-2-8) of Moncton and Olivier Labelle (6-1-7) of Acadie-Bathurst were also considered.

The defensive player award went to goaltender Brandon Verge, thanks to two wins in three games, a 2.60 goals-against-average as well as a .934 save percentage. The Fog Devils goalkeeper faced an average of 41 shots per game.

Verge backstopped his team in last Saturday's opening night 3-2 shootout win against the MAINEiacs. He kept Lewiston from scoring a single shootout goal in four tries. His other victory came in a 3-2 win against the expansion rival Saint John Sea Dogs on both teams' opening night. The PEI Rocket was the only team able to notch a victory over the goaltender.

Other players considered for the defensive player of the week award were defenseman Keith Yandle (3-4-7) of Moncton, goaltender Josh Tordjman (4-1-0; 310 MP; 2.90 GAA; .915 SAV%) of Victoriaville and defenseman Billy Bezeau (0-6-6) of Acadie-Bathurst.
