Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel announced today that four members of the 2007 coaching staff will be retained for the 2008 Canadian Football League season.

As Hufnagel noted last week when he joined the Stamps, he will be keeping George Cortez as offensive co-ordinator. Hufnagel also confirmed Tuesday that Craig Dickenson will remain as special teams coach, Kris Sweet will continue to coach the offensive line and Mark Kilam will stay with the club as quality-control coach/strength and conditioning coach.

Hufnagel will be available to the media at 3 p.m. today in the Stamps administration offices at McMahon Stadium.

Dickenson joined the Stamps in 2002 as offensive assistant/receivers coach before spending a season with the Montreal Alouettes as running backs coach. He returned in 2004 and coached receivers and running backs before settling in as special teams coach in 2005.

"Craig is very qualified," said Hufnagel. "He's very specific in his coaching techniques and he comes highly recommended by a number of people."

Sweet joined the Stamps prior to the 2006 season after coaching offensive line at Kentucky State, Columbia University and Presbyterian College.

"Kris is driven to make players better," said Hufnagel. "He has been in the system for a year and George is very comfortable working with him. He's the type of coach that I wanted to get and he ended up being right next door."

Kilam joined the Stamps in 2005 as strength and conditioning coach and began assisting the defence in mid-season. Last year, he added linebacker coach to his duties. Hufnagel said Kilam's possible role on the defence in 2008 will be determined by the defensive co-ordinator, who is yet to be named.

"Mark brings a lot of energy to the staff," said Hufnagel. "He's a young, eager guy who has several good qualities, as far as being a strength and conditioning coach and wanting to climb the coaching ladder."

The Stamps have released receivers coach Chuck McMann, while the status of defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke and defensive line coach Casey Creehan are dependant on the hiring of a new defensive co-ordinator.
