Harrisburg Stampede News Release

HARRISBURG, PA - Coming off two losses, the Harrisburg Stampede were looking for a much-needed win heading into tonight's game in Richmond. Both the Stampede and Raiders entered the game with a record of 1-2 and looked to secure a critical divisional win.

The Raiders opened up the game with a kickoff Uno and grabbed a very early 1-0 lead. On the next Richmond possession, (LB) Jermaine Thaxton snagged an interception and returned it for a touchdown as the Stampede's lead jumped to 7-1. The offense followed up with a touchdown when (QB) Ej Nemeth found (WR) Jerrell Jones to create a 14-1 lead.

The Stampede's defense dominated the first half. With several forced turnovers and a crucial blocked FG return for a TD in the 2nd quarter, the defense kept the scoring going as the Herd lead 21-1 late into the first half. Nemeth connected on a scoring pass to (WR) Chris Schubert and extended their lead to 28-1.

The Stampede defense allowed two quick touchdowns to start the 3rd quarter. The Herd's offense was stalled and was held scoreless in the quarter. The final quarter was a different story. The Stampede was able to get the offense back in gear to the tune of 17 points, while the defense held the Raiders to one late 4th quarter touchdown to capture an important road win. The Stampede improve their record to 2-2 on the season with a final score of 48-27.

Stampede head coach Bernie Nowotarski after the game: ""Its always great to be able to get a win on the road. The defense really stepped up and showed they came here to play. The team is looking forward to the trip down to Alabama next weekend."

The Stampede will travel to Alabama on 4/28/14 to face the defending 2013 PIFL Champion Alabama Hammers (0-4) as the next stop on a grueling four-game road stretch.
