Harrisburg Stampede News Release

HARRISBURG, PA (Jun 15, 2014) - The Harrisburg Stampede (3-7) played host to the Richmond Raiders (5-5) Saturday afternoon. The Stampede, coming off of a heartbreaking loss to Trenton last week, looked to rebound and stay alive in the playoff race.

The first quarter got off to a slow start as both offenses struggled to move the ball. Two early field goals from Richmond gave them a 6-0 lead. The Stampede fought back before an interception thrown by QB E.J. Nemeth was returned for a touchdown, ending the 1st quarter with Richmond ahead 13-0.

The Stampede, opened up the 2nd with a TD run from Nemeth, but a failed PAT would limit the damage making the score 13-6.

The offensive struggles continued for both sides during the rest of the first half. The Raiders managed a field goal late in the 2nd quarter, which looked to end the scoring in the half. However, Nemeth found Jerrel Jones who forced his way in the endzone while breaking multiple tackles. Cap Poklemba hit an UNO on the ensuing kickoff to bring the Stampede closer, with Richmond taking a 1-point lead into halftime at 16-15.

The second half proved to be an offensive struggle for the Stampede. The Raiders opened the 3rd quarter with an early touchdown, and added another score later in the quarter, while keeping the Stampede offense off the board, taking a 31-15 lead into the 4th quarter.

The fourth quarter began quiet until Nemeth added another rushing touchdown, breaking several tackles and forcing himself into the endzone. However, a failed 2-point conversion attempt held the score at 31-21. The Raiders answered with a field goal to keep a confortable lead, 34-21.

Unfortunately, turnovers plagued the Stampede 's fourth quarter rally attempt. The Raiders defense forced five interceptions and limited the Stampede offense to just 29 points, propelling the Richmond Raiders to a 46-29 win over the Harrisburg Stampede. The Raiders closed the season series with Harrisburg at 2-1, and remain in second place and alive in playoff contention in the PIFL's National Conference.

The Stampede playoff chances took a significant hit, as they remain in last place in the National Conference. The Herd hosts the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks next week in the final home game of the season.
