Harrisburg Stampede News Release

HARRISBURG, PA (August 30, 2012) - The Harrisburg Stampede have confirmed that Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski will be progressing to the next level with his battle against Multiple Myeloma.

Coach Nowotarski has been declared medically fit and able to receive a vital Stem Cell Transplant operation for his condition. The Coach was diagnosed on February 29th, just one week before the 2012 Stampede season was to begin. In typical Coach Nowotarski behavior and character, he continued to prepare for the season without missing a practice and spending this time with his players, coaches and family or as the Stamped like to say "LaFamilia".

The season found the Stampede with a 7-2 record and were just one game away from playing in the League Championship game. The Stampede had the league leading defense as well as a very high powered Offense, led by Offensive MVP EJ Nemeth. Coach was there through it all while taking his chemo therapy and dealing with the mental and physical issues that Cancer causes.

It is being reported that Coach Nowotarski will be admitted to Hershey Medical on September 9 and that after a few days of preliminary blood work his transplant will begin on September 13th. He should remain in Hershey Medical for about a 2 week period. A Stem Cell Transplant is a key component to keeping this blood born cancer in remission.

In a phone conversation with Coach yesterday he said, "He is more than ready to get in and get the transplant taken care of and then getting back home to his wife Jill and his children's sports events. While he is in Hershey, Coach says he plans on taking care of Stampede signings and he is especially excited for the first Stampede Open Work-Out, to be set very soon. He also passed on that he can't say Thank you enough to everyone who has stood by him and his Family during the last 6 months, it has meant so much to all of us.
