Published on May 13, 2005 under United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release
Grand Forks, ND- Cedar Rapids goaltender Alex Stalock has been named USHL Playoff Most Valuable Player. Stalock lead the RoughRiders to the Clark Cup and USA Hockey's Tier I Junior "A" National Championship with a stellar performance between the pipes.
Stalock and fellow RoughRider goaltender Dan Tormey opened up the playoffs with six straight victories in sweeping their Eastern Conference foes Indiana and Chicago. Cedar Rapids Coach Mark Carlson rode Stalock the rest of the way, who turned in a 7-2 record with a measly 14 goals against for an incredible 1.44 goals against average. Stalock turned away 268 shots in the playoffs and recorded one shutout along the way.
However, it was his flawless play in the finals that earned him the MVP, and propelled the RoughRiders to the championship. Sioux City proved to be Cedar Rapids' greatest challenge, but Stalock was up to the task and saved his best performance for last, holding the Musketeers scoreless until the waning moments of the decisive Game 5.
The St. Paul native has signed on to play at Minnesota-Duluth but The Bulldogs will have to wait as Stalock will return to Cedar Rapids next season for another run at the Clark Cup.
