Staats Named IL Rookie of the Year

On May 27th the Atlanta Blaze's own Randy Staats was announced as the 2016 Inside Lacrosse NLL Rookie of the Year for his time played with local Atlanta professional indoor lacrosse team, the Georgia Swarm. Looking at his statistics, it's no surprise he was selected for this prestigious award.
Randy Staats is a dominant player for the Swarm, totaling 95 points throughout the course of his rookie season. In addition to his impressive point total, Staats also boasts 36 goals and 59 assists. Â
Further, Staats now holds the National Lacrosse League's highest single- season scoring record among rookies.
On his award Staats said that "being named Rookie of the Year by Inside Lacrosse is an honor and a humbling thing. This rookie class was very talented with very good players and I feel an extreme honor to have Inside Lacrosse award me with this. I could not have accomplished what I did this season in the NLL if it weren't for all of my teammates. Lacrosse is not a single-person thing, it's an entire team thing, so I owe a lot of credit to the men on my team."
Inside Lacrosse's voting breakdown shows Staats winning this award by an overwhelming amount of votes with a total of 44 points. Graeme Hossack, another player for the Blaze, came in second for Rookie of the Year totaling 25 points among voters.
Says Teddy Jenner, one of the voters, "When you finish in the top 10 in league scoring and help turn a struggling franchise around into a playoff team, it`s safe to say you had a really good year. But when you break the single-season rookie points and assist record, and do all of that, it's even more outstanding."
Randy Staats will be playing his third game for the Blaze this upcoming weekend against the Boston Cannons at 7pm at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
