St. Michael's Majors Take Up Residence at Mississauga's Hershey Centre
Published on June 5, 2007 under Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release
Toronto, Ont. (Tuesday, June 5, 2007) - It is now official; the St. Michael's Majors are relocating to Mississauga for the upcoming season. This situation comes as a result of the transfer of the Mississauga IceDogs to the city of St. Catharines, which has been approved by the Ontario Hockey League's Board of Governors.
The Majors will now be known as the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors and will continue to possess a strong connection to St. Michael's College School.
The Majors web site address (www.stmichaelsmajors.com) will not change. Stay tuned to that site as the team will be releasing their 2007-08 schedule in the near future, as well as ticket packages, community programs and the many exciting initiatives planned for the upcoming season.
The Majors are coming off of their tenth season back in the OHL. During that span, they called Maple Leaf Gardens and St. Michael's College School Arena home at various points. And, they produced four straight trips to the OHL's Eastern Conference Final and two division crowns.
The club also recently welcomed back former head coach Dave Cameron, the man who helped orchestrate much of their aforementioned playoff success and is coming off of a three-year stint as head coach of the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators.
At the same time, Jim Hulton, former bench boss of Kingston, Belleville and Mississauga, and assistant coach of Canada's 2005 gold medal-winning World Junior Championship squad, was named an assistant coach.
