St. Louis to be home of first ABA University
April 17, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
St. Louis, MO. The American Basketball Association announced today that it will launch the league's first ABA University in St. Louis, Missouri. The mission of ABAU is to provide a curriculum to teach the business of professional basketball both on and off the court. The 12-week session will instruct players in the areas of basketball training and weight lifting, how to increase players' market value, training for television and radio interviews, public appearance, community work, as well as after-career management possibilities. Players will also participate in exhibition games which will provide as a central location where ABA scouts can meet and recruit players.
Joe Newman, ABA CEO, explained, "We believe that the ABAU will provide players with everything they need to know and do in the world of professional basketball." Each class will be taught by instructors with years of experience in their profession. ABAU will give instructors the opportunity to critique players' abilities one-on-one and provide them with overall assessment.
Earl Childress will serve as the Dean of the ABAU-St. Louis Campus. ABAU will begin its first 12-week session on June 5, 2006. The session will consist of two (2) hour classes meeting Monday through Friday. Enrollment into the ABAU program will begin May 1, 2006 with May 30th as the last date to enroll. No walk-ups will be accepted. The ABAU "tuition" is only $360.00. Housing is available for an additional charge.
