
Sports name Eddie Gerald coach

Former minor league outfielder Eddie Gerald has been named a coach for the Shreveport Sports for the 2006 season.
Gerald, who spent 17 years in the minor leagues will be a fulltime coach for the first time this season. Last year at Brockton in the Northeast League, Gerald was a player-coach.
The 35-year old native of North Carolina played two years for Sports manager Bob Flori at Aberdeen (SD) and Sioux Falls (SD) and was originally selected in the third round of the 1989 draft by the Kansas City Royals. Gerald also played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins in their minor league systems. He reached the Double-A level at Nashville in the Southern League in 1994 and New Britain in the Eastern League in 1995.
In his 17-years of minor league baseball, Gerald had a lifetime average of .264 with 173 home runs and 744 RBI's.
"Having played for Flori, I know what to expect out of him, both as a person and as a coach and I am looking forward to working with him this season," said Gerald.
Along with his first base coaching duties, Gerald will also work with the hitters and outfielders.
The Sports will open the 2006 season on May 11th.
