Sports defeat Jackson 6-1

The Shreveport Sports won their second straight from Jackson defeating the Senators 6-1 at Fair Grounds Field.

The Sports took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Jorge Alvarez. Shreveport scored their second run in the second inning when Michael Hicks scored on an infield out by Chris Hall. Derek Patterson led off the third with his ninth home run of the season to make it 3-0 Shreveport.

Shreveport topped off the scoring with three runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run home run by Juan Rocha, his third in three nights at Fair Grounds Field.

Sports starter Ira Brown pitched seven innings to record his third win of the season, as Jackson had only four hits and Brown finished the game with seven strikeouts.

The Sports will now travel to Fort Worth to open a three game series with the Cats Sunday night at 7:05. Shreveport will return to Fair Grounds Field to play the final four games of the season against Pensacola before opening the Eastern Division playoffs on Monday, August 23rd.
