Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Edward Pasquale of the Saginaw Spirit is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending March 14. Pasquale posted a 2-0-0-1 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.97 and save percentage of.972.
Pasquale led the OHL with 105 saves in three games beginning last Wednesday night where he turned aside 33 shots before falling 3-2 to the Sault Ste. Saturday night marked one of his top performances of the year making 38 saves to beat the Kitchener Rangers 3-0 to earn first star of the game honours with his first shutout of the season. He wrapped up his week and the regular season on Sunday with second star honours in a 4-1 win over the Plymouth Whalers where he made 34 saves.
Pasquale, a 19-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and finished the 2009-10 campaign with a 27-17-2-3 record with a goals-against-average of 3.17 and save percentage of.916 and one shutout. The fourth round 2009 NHL Entry Draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers helped the Spirit climb the standings in the season's final weekend to sixth place in the OHL's Western Conference.
Mac Carruth of the WHL's Portland Winterhawks was also considered for the award after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with a 1.30 goals-against-average and a.958 save percentage.
