Windsor Spitfires News Release
Josh Shalla had four goals - all set up by Vincent Trocheck - and Mavric Parks made 35 saves as the Spirit handed the Spits a 5-2 defeat on Saturday night at the Dow Center in Saginaw.
Eric Locke and Derek Lanoue scored in a losing effort for Windsor (14-10-0-1).
But by the time they hit the scoresheet, Shalla had done most of his damage.
After Mickey Sartoretto made it 1-0 Spirit, 11 minutes in to the first, Shalla took a nice cross-ice feed from linemate Trocheck, beating Jack Campbell with a nifty backhander to make it 2-0.
Shalla scored his second of the game, shorthanded, at the 4:32 mark of the second. And again, it was Trochek that did all the dirty work - stealing the puck from Nick Ebert and charging in off the right wing, allowing Shalla to pot a rebound into an empty net.
The pair combined again to complete the hat-trick just three minutes later, to make it 4-0.
The Spits looked like they might climb back in it, after Locke scored his 11th and, two minutes later, Derek Lanoue stole an errant pass and beat Parks on the glove side, while shorthanded.
But Shalla's fourth of the game, in the third period, proved to be the dagger.
Campbell made 33 saves for the Spits, in another strong effort.
