State College Spikes News Release

STATE COLLEGE, PA-Brock Holt delivered his second three-hit night of the year for the State College Spikes, but the Batavia Muckdogs were able to score four runs off of Pirates left-hander Phil Dumatrait to top the Spikes, 4-3, on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

A crowd of 4,754, the second-largest of the season at the ballpark, saw Dumatrait (0-1) allow just two earned runs in his outing, as Batavia (19-18) took the lead on two runs off of three State College (17-20) errors in the fifth inning. The southpaw yielded five hits on the game, including a solo home run by Xavier Scruggs, but did not walk a batter and struck out four. Dumatrait was the second Pittsburgh Pirate to make a rehab appearance at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Zach Duke made a start for State College against Mahoning Valley on September 6, 2007.

Holt went 3-for-4 with two doubles, becoming the second Spike with a pair of two-baggers in a single game this year. Aaron Baker, who was the other Spikes with two doubles in a game, drove in a run with a first-inning double on Sunday. David Rubinstein went 2-for-4 with a run batted in as well.

Muckdogs starter Tyler Leach (1-2) earned the win, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out two over five innings of work. Christopher Corrigan (1) got the save for Batavia with four innings of scoreless relief to finish the game.

Monday, State College begins a four-game road trip with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Auburn Doubledays at Falcon Park. State College will send the Pirates' 2009 supplemental first-round draft pick, right-hander Victor Black (1-0), to the mound to face Auburn right-hander Scott Gracey (1-4).

Fans can catch all of the action on the Spikes Radio Network and flagship station 3WZ at 95.3 FM starting at 6:35 p.m. with the Spikes GameDay Show live from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

The Spikes' radio broadcast can also be heard worldwide through the "Listen Live" link on StateCollegeSpikes.com, provided by 95.3-3WZ.
