San Jose Spiders News Release
SAN JOSE CA, February 15, 2005- The SPIDERS flew into Lubbock fresh off the sting of the Colorado air and were promptly burned by the LUBBOCK HAWKS in a game tonight down in Texas. The HAWKS won, 71-49.
In a familiar patter to SPIDERS fans, the home town team got off to a good start only to fade as the game wore on. An experienced Lubbock team used the strength of their six WNBA veterans to beat the fledgling franchise in the last ten minutes of regulation.
The SPIDERS were once again without the services of their best performer, Andrea Garner. Garner has a dislocated kneecap and her return this season is in doubt. Amisha Carter once again filled the role of frontcourt heroin, scoring 16 points and grabbing 8 rebounds to lead the San Jose attack.
The HAWKS capitalized on nearly every SPIDER miss, using deep caroms to push the ball on the break and score easy baskets.
The SPIDER defense played well for most of the game, keeping the score to a grind-it-out pace. With ten minutes to go the score was 39-36 HAWKS. But, the transition defense abandoned San Jose in the closing minutes, as every ball seemed to lead to a fast break lay-up for Lubbock.
The SPIDERS are moving down the road for the second game of their Texas two-step against DALLAS on Thursday before the SPIDERS return home for another match up with the CHILL February 19th, game time 7:00 pm.
